I got back a week ago...

- it was great
- busiest i've seen it in years
- probably around 40C during the day with humidity
- prices were good... ambassaden had buy 1 get 1 free and free shot (if you got tequila you'd get 2 free shots) for 7 eur. The Bell had all you can drink for 12 eur but when I went by it was completely empty so it really wasn't worth it...
- lots of all night parties... aqua club, river reggae, etc..
- the talent? uh?
- best places? try them all out... for me it was ambassaden, bedrock and starskys...
A lot has changed and then a lot remains the same. The crowd has changed and it is not as manic busy as it used to be. A lot of that has to do with the spread of bars away from the main square now.
Numbers are down in recent years but the place still has an amazing buzz. Bedrock and Starskys are the big places as is the Castle and their new Superclub Babylon. The Ambassaden right on the start of the hill still packs them in. Lots of more upmarket bars and restaurants such as liquid, sage, vanillia, seasons. Prices are expensive enough but my sources tell me that the PRs this year actually have good deals so worth chatting to them. Local Beer (Keo) is 2.50 - 3.00 euro. Imported spirits quite expensive - similar to in UK/Irl. Bars like Seaons, Liquid - i.e. those away from the main square serve imported drinks at reasonable prices. Food prices still excellent. Meal for 2 (4 course with wine) 45-50 euro in a good restaurant. Lots of variety in this too so STAY AWAY from McDonalds and enjoy the local cuisine!!

Dont try and compare it too much to the early years of the decade 00/01/02. It has changed but I actually think it has done so for the better.
I have flow with them a good bit and could not fault them. As said - they are the charter side of Cyprus Airways. I now fly scheduled from LHR to LCA with CA and they are excellent - though expensive.
Eurocypria are good. Re the food: what airline gives good food??? Yuck in all cases except long haul Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, BA, Ethiad, etc etc - all long haul routes. Rest are dire.

Was rushing yesterday so only had time for a quick summary!

Flew from Humberside with Eurocypria no problems, on time! We didn't pay for food but got a meal both ways anyway, wasn't upto much but it passed a bit of time.

Landed at Larnaca and was greeted by the lovely sun and warmth, the new terminal is not open yet, but looks like it is well on the way.

Weather was good for the whole 2 weeks, a little bit of cloud came over midweek but it soon cleared. The temperature was just right, mid 30s and not too hot on a night - but it did seem to be getting warmer as we left, especially on a night.

I was surprised how busy it seemed, there was a bank holiday whilst we were over there so this may explain this. There was also a good mix of ages which is nice to see, also a good mix of nationalities.

Nissi beach was banging as usual, we often camped up nearer nissi bay hotel where it is a little quieter. We did notice more seaweed in the bay this year, don't know if this was due to the windy weather just lately.

Prices - well if you look around enough there are places with discounted menus and drinks - set meals seem to be more popular this year and you could probably get a 3 course meal for 15-20 euro each.
Most bars had happy hours on - usually 2 euro to 3 euro on local drinks. this wasn't the case in the square, but many do buy one get one free - just make sure you don't end up with more than you need like we did.

Pirate boat is new this year - didn't go on it but it looked impressive docked in the harbour and sailing down the coastline.
Hey guys, just posted a review from my 2 week holiday staying at the Anmaria - check it out!

Just a quick post to sum up the holiday.

Had a great time, it was nice to be back.

Before nights out we'd stay in the cheap bars - Sea cavern, Rat & Parrott etc where local drinks were 2 euro, we'd stay in these as long as we could because the further you venture up the road the more expensive it gets. Then select our favourites up towards the main square.

Enjoyed nights in live lounge - a must if you like live music.

It was expensive this year, but this didn't stop us enjoying it
Subject: Re: ANMARIA HOTEL
Posted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 2:01 pm (GMT 2)

Just got back from a 2 week stay at this hotel and was very happy we chose it. Having previously stayed at Thalasakki, Anthea and Napa Plaza we thought we'd try somewhere else.

The location is good, only a ten minute walk to all the action.

The rooms seem to all be recently refurnished, with laminate floor and nice furnishings. We had a top floor pool view, which offered excellent views of the coastline towards sandy bay, nissi bay.

The pool area was spacious, allowing plenty of room in between sun loungers and the pool was a nice size, it is also very clean.
Sunloungers did seem to get taken up by lunchtime and any remaining ones taken up by non residents - which did get on my nerves slightly.

The food was surprisingly good, it did get a little repetitive by the end of week 2 and would suggest eating out one or two times, just to sample some of the excellent restaurants in the area.

We had an entertainment team in the hotel, all of whom do an excellent job in keeping us amused and entertained. Thanks guys.

Overall an excellent choice for half board.

See you again in 2010??
Thats good advice. I always work on the £100 a day mark too.
You will find yoursef spending less as the week goes on, when you find out where to get cheap/ free drinks and free entry into clubs etc.
Have fun!!!
I usually work to £100 a day approx. That includes a meal out at night.....which you probably wont do But if your clubbing every night that'll be about right.

I then always take about £300 extra for "just in case" so say a Grand
_________________
Qui docet discit.......

We're flying from Manchester, we havent ordered the food, thought it might be a lot cheaper to take food on board with us!

It was dirt cheap we got the price of the flight for so I wasn't expecting anything great ha.
Hiya Pidge,

My friend used to work at the Rainbow Bike Hire shop on Nissi Avenue, next door to the Kaos Apts. I know the family who own them, so go there, you might a good price. Say that Maria's friend Julie recommended them - that should help!

She now works with her hubby at their 2 shops called MACAO. One is opposite the Salmary Apts, and the other one is near the Nelia Beach Hotel, but they only do mopeds and quads. Try doing a quad safari from the shop near the Nelia Hotel, Panicos runs it. Again say that Maria's friend Julie recommended them!
I'll be sure to check them out for our next trip over to Napa. It won't be til next year tho unfortunately! I'm really missing not being able to go over there this year. We stayed at the Bellini Bungalows last year, near the Mexican Restaurant and Togo Toga Strip Club, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there - the owners even bought us a little wedding present as we got married the day before we flew out last August. We really want to go there again, but it really is price dependent!
Where are you flying from? I would not recommend the food on the flight.

I requested a special meal both ways, but only got one going out to Cyprus, not home! Try to have a meal at the airport before going on board, or take butties with you, or a McDonalds or Burger King, or whatever takeaway is in the departure lounge!

Next time we fly over there, I will be takking my own food on board! It's not the best food. Thomas Cook food is much better!
